Our Pilgrimage visit to Gloucester Cathedral

We travelled back in time as Pilgrims to 1480 and visited St Peters Abbey [now known as Gloucester Cathedral].

We learnt about why people, even today, go on pilgrimages and the importance of them.

The Stone Masons mark -  the marks that you see on the pillar were made by the builder. Each builder had their own symbol so that their boss could pay them.

The stain glass window shows monks carrying the body of Richard 11, who is buried within the grounds.

Travis was the Pilgrims leader. He was in charge of making sure that everyone got to the Cathedral safely. People would have travelled for miles and miles.

This knight, known as Robert, was the son of William the Conqueror. Although his body is not buried here it is believed that his body is somewhere within the grounds of the Cathedral.

The Pilgrims are leaving their gifts.

Chedworth Roman Villa

We had an incredible time at the Roman Villa. The children handled artefacts, dressed up as Roman slaves and looked at the remains of the Roman Villa.

A natural source of water found by the Romans for heating, bathing, drinking and cooking.

Underfloor heating.

Year 3 slaves working hard to produce a medicine for their owner.

To think a Roman person would have handled these...

Piecing the past together.
